Fish have the potential to provide recycled and translocated nutrients (Carbon, Nitrogen, Phosphorus) between and within marine habitats via excretion. Striped parrot fish (Scarus iseri) is a dominant species in the marine fish communities present on South Florida's seagrass beds and coral reefs. In quantifying the nutrient input via S. Iseris excretion, researchers can begin to calculate the overall nutrient budget of the system. To investigate if there is a relationship between the size (cm) of S. Iseris and its excretion rate of phosphorus (ug / 1 hour), An FIU graduate student collected 50 S. Iseris of various sizes (cm) from sites randomly distributed throughout Biscayne Bay and then measured their excretion rate of phosphorus (ug / 1 hour) using incubation experiments. Based on these observations, we could put forth the following question: Does size of Striped parrot fish in a community affect phosphorus input via excretion? 23. For the study above, identify the following: (4 points) a. Population b. Sample c. Parameter d. Statistics 24. For the study above, identify the following: (3 points) a. Dependent variable b. Independent variable c. Is the independent variable categorical or numerical?
