HS-LS2-5 Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamicse Develop a model to illustrate the role of photosynthesis and cellular respiration in the cycling of carbon among the biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere and geosphere (lithosphere). Students will do one of two things to show how carbon cycles through Earth's systems: 1. Draw a diagram that shows the carbon cycle through Earth's systems, with a key to add detail to the major parts 2. Tell the story of a carbon atom as it moves through Earth's systems. * This can be a 1-2 page written story or a comic strip The following elements are graded and need to be present in the model: Specific examples of fast and slow carbon storage and release in all the Earth Systems Complete the cycle after at least 10 stops/places Definitions of key terms are used in context (photosynthesis, cellular respiration, greenhouse gas, carbon sink, biosphere, atmosphere, cryosphere, and geosphere/lithosphere are the minimum) • Clear cycle that is logical, accurate, and easy to follow . .
