How do we calculate the species richness?
You are studying the effect of potential evapotranspiration
(PET) on the species richness of birds. You quantify PET values and
species richness at five sites. Site 1 has a PET of 100 mm per year
and 120 species. Site 2 has a PET of 300 mm per year and 150
species. Site 3 has a PET of 500 mm per year and 175 species. Site
4 has a PET of 1,000 mm per year and 173 species. Finally, site 5
has a PET of 1,500 mm per year and 176 species. Using this
information, predict the approximate species richness at a sixth
site that has a PET value of 1,230 mm per year.
