Figure 12.2 Arubber balloon is inflated with air. The air pressure inside the balloon is greater than on the outside. The pressure inside results from collisions of gas molecules with the walls of the balloon, making the balloon stretch and stay inflated. As the temperature decreases, the kinetic energy of the molecules also decreases. With less energy, the molecules do not hit the walls of the balloon with as much force which causes a decrease in (#7: pressure/volume), and results in a smaller (#8: pressure/volume) for the balloon. During winter, air needs to be added to car tires in order to keep the pressure at the manufacturer-suggested psi. The opposite is true during the summer. This is because, as the temperature (#9: increases/decreases), the air in a car's tires gets colder, the molecules move slower, and the pressure (#10: increases/decreases). In order to bring the pressure back up you need to add more air, hence, molecules to the tires. 621 PM
