Situation: Hydrocarbons A and B are separated by distillation; A is the lighter component and mole fractions given are for component A, unless otherwise mentioned. The feed to the column is saturated liquid with a mole fraction of 0.51. The vapor stream leaving the column with a mole fraction of 0.96, goes to a total condenser. Half of the liquid condensate is returned to the top of the column and the rest is withdrawn as the product at a rate of 65 [mol/s). The overhead product contains the 89% of component A fed to the column. The liquid stream leaving the bottom of the column goes to a reboiler where part of the stream is vaporized. The vapor is reinjected to the bottom of the column and the liquid is taken off as the bottom product. Assume that the relative volatility of this system is 3.0 (constant). Requirements: Please, write or select the best value for the 1. Flow rate of feed: [mol/s) ... and of the bottom product: [mol/s) 2. Mole fraction of A in the bottom product: [mol/s] 3. Rectifying section flow rates of rising vapor: ... and of the falling liquid: [mol/s) 4. External reflux ratio: 5. Stripping section flow rates of rising vapor: [mol/s); . and of the falling liquid: [mol/s) 6. Slope of operating lines in rectifying section: and in the stripping section:
6. Slope of operating lines in rectifying section: ... and in the stripping section: 7. Minimum number of theoretical plates: 8. Minimum reflux ratio:
