A passenger ferry is moored at the Ferry Terminal Harbour shown in the figure below. The vessel has a length overall of 25 m, a beam of 10 m, and a maximum draft of 1.5 m. The vessel is scheduled to depart after 12:00 pm on the 10th June using the tidally influenced navigation channel shown below. In order to depart the vessel requires a minimum gross underkeel clearance of 1 m. Determine: (a) The earliest time in the afternoon that the vessel can depart the terminal based on the tidal levels provided. Round your answer up to the nearest hour.
(b) Based on the tides provided, what level (relative to mCD) would the navigation channel need to be dredged to in order to allow the vessel to depart at any time of day/night on the 10th June.
(c) If the dredged material was disposed at an offshore disposal site, describe two environmental issues which would need to be considered.
(d) Explain the difference between the net and gross underkeel clearance. .
(e) When resonance occurs in the ferry terminal harbour at mean sea level (i.e. 2 mCD), the height of the standing wave is 0.15 m. Determine the maximum water particle velocity and the resonant period for the fundamental mode.
