Q3) A series of horizontal trays are placed in a settling chamber, with 12 m long, 2 m high, and 2 m wide processes 240 m3/m of air at a temperature of 75°C. A series of horizontal trays is placed. The trays are 10 m long, 20 cm apart and reduce the cross sectional area of the tank by 10 percent. Determine the smallest particle with specific gravity 1.8 that is removed with theoretical efficiency of 100 percent. Q4) A cyclone of standard dimensions with a diameter of 1.6 m processes 4.5 m/s of air with a temperature of 50 °C. Determine d50 if the specific gravity of the particle is 1.2. Determine the collection efficiency for particles with diameters of (a) 5 micro meter, and (b) 30 micro meter. Q5) It is desired to design a cyclone that will remove a 15 micro meter particle with 50 percent efficiency from an air stream of 6 m3/min. The temperature of the air is 75 °C, and the specific gravity of the particle is 1.5. The cyclone is to have standard dimensions. Assume five turns. Q6) Determine the filter cloth area required to process a flow of 8.8 m/s of gas at a filtering velocity of 1.5 m/min. Q7) Determine number of bags required for continues cleaning of 8.8 m/s of gas at a filtering velocity of 1.5 m/min. Assume diameter and length of each bag as 20 cm and 5 m respectively.
