Problem 5 A simply supported beam 6 meters long is 300 mm wide with an effective depth of 500 mm. It supports a total factored uniform load of 120 kN/m. Ps= 28 Mpa, fy = 415 MPa and fy: = 275 MPa. Use 2010 NSCP. 1. Calculate the factored shear at the critical section. 2. Find the nominal shear strength provided by concrete. 3. When the shear reinforcement is required, determine the minimum reinforcement area, Avimin provided by the code, if the spacing is 250mm. 4. Find the distance from supports where stirrups are no longer required. 5. Calculate the theoretical spacing of 10mm stirrups using the shear at the critical section.
