QUESTION 1 A piston cylinder device contains 5 kg of air at initial pressure of 0.3 Mpa and initial temperature of 400°C. The air in the piston undergoes a cycle consisting of three processes as stated below: Process 1-2:isothermal expansion causing the pressure drop to 0.12 Mpa Process 2-3:cooled at constant pressure Process 3-1:polytropic compression back to its original state, PV=C Show the process on P-V diagram and determine: i) the volume of all states (m) ii) the total work done in the cycle (kJ) (Given that constant specific heat, Cp= 1.005kJ/kg.K, Cv = 0.718 kJ/kg.K, specific gas constant, R = 0.287 kJ/kg.K and specific heat ratio, y= 1.4 are constant throughout the system) (10 Marks)
