Air that flows through the shell side of a XX-tubes (2 digits,
read the instructions below), one-pass shell-and-tube heat
exchanger is to be heat by water flowing at a rate of 15 kg/s. The
length of the copper tubes is 8 m, and they have an outside
diameter of 2.5 cm and an inside diameter of 2.3 cm. The convective
heat transfer coefficients of the water and air are 10XX W/m2 .K (4
digits, example 1071 W/m2 .K) and 200 W/m2 K, respectively. The air
enters the shell at a temperature of 15°C and a flow rate of 16
kg/s. The temperature of the water as it enters the tubes is 75°C.
a) draw a schematic of the heat exchanger and calculate (b) the
heat exchanger effectiveness, (c) the heat transfer rate to the
air, and (d) the outlet temperature of the air and water. Write
down all your assumptions.
INSTRUTION: By XX use:
a) The two last digits of your student number if they are equal
or greater than 50, example S00000071 then XX=71
b) The two last digits of your student number plus 50 if they
are less than 50, example S00000034 then XX=34+50=84
