Phase 1 (30%): Design a single degree-of-freedom car suspension system. The purpose of the device is to reduce the vibration amplitude while riding a bumpy road that has the profile of f(t). The profile is given by the following profile: y h X L Phase 1 (30%): Modeling using elementary mechanical elements (components) 1. What mechanical elements must be used in this device and why? 2. Find an appropriate model for the suspension system. 3. Suggest possible configurations and draw necessary models and justify your choice and selection one as your model 4. Select a single degree of freedom as your model and justify your choice. 5. Derive the equation governing the motion for the model you have selected. • Each group will solve this problem individually. 6. Solve for the response by hand and check you answer using MATLAB. 7. Use your own car to get the realistic car information such as weight, spring dimensions, allowable space, configuration, etc., to determine the spring stiffness. • There arc infinite solutions to the problem; hence, no two solutions should be the same.
