Question 1 The nozzle inlet of an impulse air turbine has a total pressure of 3 bar and a total temperature of 520 K, whilst at its outlet, the static pressure is 1 bar. To limit blade stress, the design blade speed is 190 m/s. The nozzle has an outlet angle is 65° and an efficiency of 85%, whilst the rotor efficiency is 65%. The mean radius and blade length at the nozzle outlet / rotor inlet are 32 cm and 5.6 cm, respectively. Using this information, determine: a) The rotor blade metal angles, B2 and 33. [50.8°; -38.4°] b) The turbine power output. (1601 kW]
