A point in a body is subjected to plane strain. The principal
strains are given as εp1 = 1590
με, εp2 = – 540
με and θP = –23.55°. Construct the Mohr’s
circle, and use it to
a) determine the strains εx, εy and γxy.
(Assume that εx > εy)
b) determine the maximum in-plane shear strain and the absolute
maximum shear strain.
c) draw a sketch showing the angle θP, the principal strain
deformations, and the maximum in-plane shear strain
distortions.
