Mr. R. loves steaks and potatoes. Therefore, he has decided to
go on a steady diet of only these two foods (plus some liquids and
vitamin supplements) for all his meals. Mr. R. realizes that this
is not the healthiest diet, so he wants to make sure that he eats
the right quantities of the two foods to satisfy some key
nutritional requirements. He has obtained the following nutritional
and cost information.
Each Serving of Steak contains the following ingredients: 6
grams of carbs, 20 grams of protein, 25 grams of fat, and 400
Calories.
Each Serving of Potatoes contains the following ingredients:
13.5 grams of carbs, 5 grams of protein, and 100 Calories.
Mr. R’s minimum daily requirements for carbs, protein, and fat
from Steaks & Potatoes should be 60, 40, and 50 grams
respectively.
The total Calories from the daily Steak and Potatoes meals
should not exceed 1000 Calories.
Mr. R. wishes to determine the number of daily servings of steak
and potatoes that will meet the above daily requirements at a
minimum cost, where the costs per serving for Steak and Potatoes
are $6 and $1.5 respectively.
Create a spreadsheet model in excel and use Solver to solve
this. Then,
1. Generate the Sensitivity Report and present the obtained
results using nontechnical terminology.
2. Restrict the quantities in the daily diet to be integer values
of steaks and potatoes only and resolve.
3. Conduct a parametric analysis using solver table to see how the
daily servings and total costs will vary based on simultaneous
adjustments in the daily requirements of carbs and protein as shown
below:
The daily requirements of Carbs can range from 20 to 50 grams in
increments of 5 grams
The daily requirements of protein can vary from 40 to 50 grams
in increments of 5 grams.
