Big Tim has a machine that produces widgets. The machine has an estimated useful life of 3, years and costs $100,000 with a residual, or scrap, value of $10,000. The machine can produce 5,000 widgets before it must be scrapped. Big Tim estimates the machine will produce 2000 widgets in year 1, 1,750 widgets in year 2, and 1,250 in year 3.
