A patient is to receive medroxyprogesterone (Depo-Provera) 700
mg weekly, intramuscularly, as part of palliative therapy for
endometrial cancer. The medication is available in vials of 400
mg/mL. Identify how many milliliters will the nurse draw up and
administer with each injection. (round answer to 1st decimal place)
Universal drug calculations: Dose = D(desired amount)/ H(amount on
hand) X Q(quality) desired amount = 700mg Available amount =
400mg/ml 700mg/400mg X1ml = 1.75ml 1.75 rounded to 1decimal is
1.8ml is this correct???
or this is correct??
4.4 ml of Depo-Povera to be administered Explanation: USING THE
FORMULA: n= ml to be administered to the patient desired dose times
(x) volume = n stock dose given: desired dose= 700mg stock dose=
400mg/ml (in 2.5 ml vial) volume= 2.5 ml/ vial (700/400) x 2.5ml n
= 1.75 x 2.5 n = 4.375 or 4.4ml
