Y А B 22 P 18 _X X С D Y A column section is formed by connecting two 76x38x6.7 kg/m taper flange channel sections together a shown. Take the elastic modulus for steel = 200 GPa. (a) Calculate Is and lyy for the composite section, in mm.
(4) (b) Calculate the slenderness ratio if the column is 5m long, assuming it can be treated as a braced member rigidly fixed at the top and at the bottom (3 (c) Calculate the Euler buckling load, in kN. for the column in (b) above.
(d) Calculate the compressive (crushing) failing load, for a load acting along the longitudinal axis passing through the centroid, if the compressive strength of the steel is taken to be 350 MPa. Comment on the validity of the Euler load calculated above. (3) (e) Assuming the column is braced against buckling, calculate the maximum compressive and tensile stresses caused by an axial compressive load of 25 kN applied at point "p" which is located at an offset as shown.
