Description In class this semester, you gained the knowledge and skills required to determine the final velocity of objects after they experienced a collision. In this activity you will test this knowledge by studying a variety of types of collisions using smart carts (allowing the carts to collide with a spring between them, or magnetic bumpers) 1. Both carts have the same mass, one cart is stationary video 2. Both carts have the same mass - carts move towards each other video 3. Carts of different mass collide, and one cart is stationary video 4. Carts of different masses collide, and both carts move towards each other video 5. Cart 1 has a very small mass relative to cart 2 (load up cart 2 with masses), and cart 2 is stationary video 6. Both carts have the same mass, one cart is stationary ... carts stick together with velcro after colliding video 7. Carts of different masses collide, and both carts move towards each other ... carts stick together with velcro after colliding video
Report: Predictions: a full explanation of the concepts you used to predict the outcome of each of the collisions, including full written solutions. Comments should be made about whether collisions were perfectly elastic, perfectly inelastic, or somewhere in between. For collision 4, calculate the area under a force-time graph. Provide an explanation as to whether the area made sense based on the experiment results. Analysis: Provide a table that compares all of your predictions with your results. Provide a summary of the results that were closest/furthest from your predictions. Identify any experimental errors that may have been affecting your experiment.
