Why is the popular depiction of the dodo thought to be so
inaccurate? Which one is correct from the following?
The dodo had a unique evolutionary lineage with no closely
related species.
Museum specimens of dodos were poorly maintained and most were
thrown out.
Dodos were wiped out before the scientific method had been
developed.
At the time the dodo went extinct, extinction had not been
established as scientific fact.
Darwin had just established how new species evolve so no one
cared if one was lost.
