Question 23 4 pts A visitor says, "Why is the 'microwave part in 'cosmic microwave background'?" The light that was originally emitted a few hundred thousand years after the Big Bang was in the microwave range of the electromagnetic spectrum. O The cosmic microwave background light was high-energy and small-wavelength when it was emitted, but as space expanded, these light waves were stretched out until now they are in the microwave range of the electromagnetic spectrum. o When astronomers were first trying to detect the cosmic microwave background light, they had a lot of trouble with noise from other sources; they eventually discovered that the noise was created by microwave ovens in the town near the telescope, and so the puzzle was preserved in the name. The light emitted a few hundred thousand years after the Big Bang had very, very small wavelengths.
