A patient presents with a sore, reddened throat and is tested for S. pyogenes antigens using a rapid strep test. A second sample from the throat culture is swabbed onto a blood agar plate and put into an incubator to grow for a couple of days. The results of the rapid test are shown in the image below. A couple of days later, the technician takes the blood agar plate out of the incubator and observes small, white colonies that contain a clear zone of beta-hemolysis surrounding the growth. The plate is accidentally discarded before the results are recorded, and the patient is not contacted for a follow-up. A week later, the same patient returns to the clinic with fever and a bright red rash all over their torso. A) If possible, interpret the results of each strep test (the rapid test and the culture).
