Clear glass used in windows appears colourless but when viewed
through the edge, it has a faint green colour. Given that the
colour arises from (d5 ) Fe3+, comment on the origins of this faint
colour. In the visible absorption spectrum of glass, would you
expect broad, weak bands or sharp, weak bands? Explain your
prediction.
I know that is it a d5 electron all transitons are forbidden as
they are spin forbidden. (please dont repeat this). I am looking an
answer about the size of the bands, and its reasoning in relation
to Crystal Field Theory.
