In class, we calculated the amount of salt in the Pacific and
Atlantic Oceans, but some lakes can have even higher concentrations
of salt (called Hypersaline Lakes). Lake Retba in Senegal is a
hypersaline lake with a salt concentration of 40% salt by
mass.

(1.5 points) Assuming all the salt is NaCl
(mM = 58.443 g/mol), the volume of the
lake is 2.70×107 m3 and the density
of the lake water is 1.35 g/mL, what is the mass (in g) of salt in
this lake?

HINT: 1 m3 =
106 mL

INSTRUCTIONS: Input your answer
to THREE (3) significant digits in scientific
notation (example: 1.23e3 or
1.23E+3). DO NOT input units in the box.
If you include units the response will be marked
as INCORRECT.
g of NaCl
