Post by answerhappygod »

Ti3+ isolated in an octahedral site of sapphire is the ion
responsible for the laser activity of the tuneable
Titanium:Sapphire (Ti:Saph) laser. From your knowledge of the level
splitting of this d1 ion, discuss the spectroscopy of this solid.
In your answer identify; (i) The ground state of Ti3+ in the gas
phase. [3 marks] (ii) Use the appropriate Orgel diagram to identify
the ground state and excited state of Ti3+ in an octahedral site of
sapphire. [4 marks]
(iii) Discuss the absorption and emission of these states in
relation to the laser activity in Ti:Saph.
please answer (iii)
