Part III: Electric Dipole Field
A common and important
example of electric fields is the electric dipole, consisting of
two equal charges one positive and one negative. Place one positive
and one negative charge on the grid 6 small blocks apart. To make
this visible I have turned off the field, you may wish to do that
to reduce the clutter.
This is the setup for the first special case of points along the
center line. Add sensors at points along the center line (3 small
blocks over and up), using a new sensor for each point. We can do
this because the arrows do not overlap, as they do for other
cases in this exercise. Describe the direction and intensity of the
field and take a shot of the charges and sensors. Graph the
intensity versus distance from the center of the dipole, curve fit
the result. Discuss the results in your document.
For the points on the axis of the dipole, you will have to use a
single senor and move it after measuring each length. Describe the
direction and intensity of the field and take a shot of the charges
and sensor at a representitive position. Graph the intensity versus
distance from the center of the dipole, curve fit the result.
Discuss the results in your document.
