A speaker that is connected to a frequency generator, which creates a sound signal with a wavelength of 0.340 m. The speaker is vertically placed 2.00 m above a floor, which strongly reflects sound. A microphone is placed at a height h = 0.800 m above the floor (i.e. 1.20 m below the speaker), and detects both a sound wave directly coming from the speaker to the microphone, and a sound wave that traveled from the speaker, reflected off of the floor, and then reached the microphone. Note that since sound is a longitudinal wave that it does not undergo a n phase shift when reflecting off of a surface.
speaker 2.0 m microphone h 0.8m floor
Part A What type of interference does the microphone experience in this current configuration? The microphone currently experiences neither completely constructive interference nor completely destructive interference. The microphone currently experiences completely constructive interference. O The microphone currently experiences completely destructive interference. Submit Previous Answers Correct Part B To what new height above the floor, hnew, should the microphone be lowered in order to detect constructive interference? (note: hnew is the new height above the floor, not how much it should be lowered by) Ohnew = 0.935 m. Ohnew = 0.085 m Ohnew = 0.595 m. Ohnew = 0.680 m Ohnew = 0.255 m Ohnew = 0.765 m. Ohnew = 0.136 m
