What Classical Business Theorists Say About the SC Environment Geert Hofstede is a useful framework for discussing the SC Environment with respect to your selected worst company and related "country clusters." Gerard Hendrik (Geert) Hofstede was a Dutch social psychologist, former IBM employee, and Professor Emeritus of Organizational Anthropology and International Management at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He is well known for his pioneering research on cross-cultural groups and organizations. Hofstede's most notable work has been in developing cultural dimensions theory. He describes national cultures along six dimensions: power distance, individualism, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity, long term orientation, and Indulgence vs. restraint. Although Hofstede is an older theorist, his work is still mainline, along with another, Abraham Maslow, whose "hierarchy of needs" is a well-established theory in psychology and education. Hofstede and Maslow together form the underpinning of how we think about societies and consumers -- domestic and global.
