Kara Huber, a 17-year-old, is contemplating applying to a nursing school. She is a bit confused about the many programs available to her and isn’t sure which program would best suit her career goals.Karais alsounsure of the difference between the role of the RN and the LPN. Shehopes to begin her career as a pediatric nurse in an acute care hospital. She thinks that if she could clarify the role of the nurse in the hospital setting, she might be able to make an informed decision about beginning her career. Kara is aware that any role she chooses in nursing, licensure will be mandatedthrough a government agency. (Learning Objectives 1, 2, 5, 8)
1. Kara has decided she wants to pursue her education to become a registered nurse, explain the types of nursing education programs available to Kara.
2. Kara knows that she will need to seek licensure to work in the pediatric unit of a hospital but she is unsure why this is necessary if she graduates from an accredited school of nursing. Explain why Kara will need to pursue licensure.
