1. An observer studies two AGN and finds that they are both accreting ma- terial at the same rate but the temperatures' of their blackbody spectra are leV and 10eV respectively. This temperature corresponds to emission from 3R, in both cases with the flux from that radius going as: (1) ЗGMм f 87R3 a) What is the ratio of the SMBH masses? (4 (Hint: think about the word which is highlighted in the question] b) An atomic line is emitted from just outside the innermost radius of the disc at 4R, with a rest frame energy of 6.4keV. What are the max- imum and minimum line energies we should be able to detect from the approaching and receding sides of the disc? (Hint: use the equations of circular motion and note that SMBH mass is not needed] [4]
