Human-induced pluripotent stem cells (and embryonic stem cells)
can be converted into functional induced neuron cells within two
weeks by forcing the expression of a single transcription factor.
The resulting cells act like neurons, despite the cell line of
origin. They form mature pre-and postsynaptic specializations and
even integrate into existing synaptic networks when transplanted
into mouse brains. What transcription factor is able to
achieve this?
