Heptane is a highly flammable, colorless, easily liquefied gas that quickly vaporizes at room temperature. Heptane or n-heptane is an alkane with a molecular formula C-H16, molar mass of 100.205 grams per mole, and a density of 0.6795 grams per cubic meter. A scaled 25.0 U.S. liquid gallon steel tank is used to deliver butane gas. It is fitted with a pressure gauge and a valve. The valve automatically opens to release heptane gas when the pressure in the tank goes above 2.500 atmospheres. A sealed 25.0 U.S. liquid gallon steel tank is filled with 15.67 pounds of heptane at 26.75° Celsius. The pressure gauge registers 10.345 pounds per square inch. The steel tank is fitted with a heating jacket and is heated to 65.35° Celsius, will the valve open to release Heptane? [Note. One US liquid gallon is 3.78541 liters; one pound is 0.453592 kilogram; and, one atmosphere is 14.6959 pound per square inch. Endnote] Question: 22. The steel tank is fitted with a heating jacket and is heated to 65.35°-Celsius, will the valve open to release heptane? Show your work to prove your answer choice. 23. Write a balanced chemical equation for the complete combustion of heptane below. 24. Write a balanced chemical equation for the complete combustion of butane below.
