tertiary alcohol is formed. During the mechanism of
this reaction, the following steps occur:
Step A: The Grignard reagent attacks the
ester.
Step B: The oxygen atom is protonated.
Step C: The leaving group leaves.
Step D: The Grignard reagent attacks the
ketone.
