• 2. A taxi driver starts his car from rest and drives at a
constant speed of 15.1 m/s along a straight road toward
the west. After driving for 12.0 s, the car reaches a sharp
turn in the road and now travels in the direction of
44.0° south of west. Immediately after turning, the taxi
driver slows down his car at 1.36 m/s2 in order to stop
and pick up a passenger. It takes 6.60 s for the car to
stop after making the turn. Now, instead of the actual
path followed by the taxi, assume that there is a straight
road from the starting point to where the taxi driver
picked up the passenger. How long would that road be?
