A sailor uses an ultrasonic crack detector to find flaws in the
rubber gasket ( S.G = 2.4, Y = 2.5 GPa) sealing water tight
compartments. The crack detector produces 21.06 KHz pulses.
a) Calculate the speed of sound in the gasket in m/s
b) Calculate the wavelength
c) A crack is thought to be at a depth of 1.874 cm. Calculate
the expected interval time for the pulse to make a round rip in
μs.
