Due to a busted temperature control system your liquid stream 20 mol/s of methanol (T = 40°C) is entering the reactor as a vapour at 70°C. Luckily this was caught before the reactor over pressurized and potentially ruptured a) Determine the amount of heat that must be removed to cool the methanol to 40°C in kW b) You have access to a heat exchanger with 20°C water as the cooling fluid. The mass flow of the cooling is set to 15 kg/min. The exiting pressure of the resulting steam is 5 bar. What is the exiting temperature of the steam if you cool the methanol with this heat exchanger? c) Due to fouling of the heat exchanger, the water is only able to absorb 90% of the required heat calculated in part a. What is the final temperature of the methanol? What is the temperature of the steam?
