CHE505 REACTION ENGINEERING II
Fermentation of baker's yeast under aerobic growth on glucose in a batch reactor of volume 5000 L is described by the following overall reaction: CsH12O6 + 202 + NH3 > CsH4NO3 + H2O + CO2 Using the above reaction scheme, determine the respiratory quotient (RQ), the biomass yield coefficient (Yws), and the oxygen yield coefficient (Yw02) by solving the stoichiometry coefficients a, b, c and d. Identify the degree of reduction of substrate and biomass for this fermentation process (Degree of reduction for element : C= 4, H=1, N=-3,0 =-2). (20 marks)
