Water flows at a rate of 5 m3/s in a rectangular channel width
of 10 m. The normal depth of flow in the channel is 5 m. If a sharp
crested (suppressed) weir of height 5 m is installed across the
channel, determine the new flow depth in the channel for the same
flow rate. What would the flow depth be if the rectangular weir
were contracted (on both sides) to a width if 7 m? What would the
flow depth be if a 7 m wide Cippoletti weir is used?
