The native soils are clayey and not suitable for bedding or pipe zone material. Sandy material is available from a nearby dry river bed that is suitable for the pipe bedding and the pipe zone. The laboratory maximum dry unit weight of the alluvial sand is 109 pcf with an optimum water content of 10.2%. The in-place total unit weight and water content of the sand are 98 pcf and 5%, respectively. 1.
