The pump shown below discharges water to two elevated reservoirs
one at an elevation of 150 ft. and another at 125 ft. using two
pipes 1 and 2 respectively. The head loss in pipe 1 is 20Q1^2 and
that in pipe 1 is 30Q2^2 where Q1 and Q2 are corresponding
discharges through the pipes. The pump curve is given as
Hp=200-7.2Q^2 where Q is the discharge in the feed pipe from the
the supply reservoir at an elevation of 75. The head loss in the
feed pipe is 5Q^2. If all the valves to the reservoir are open find
the discharges in each pipe and the horsepower output of the
pump.
