Problem 1 The following table is taken along the center line of a proposed road. The roadway starts from a formation level of 88.900 and it then raises towards chainge 50 at gradient of 1:10. a) reduce the levels and apply all required checks b) draw the vertical section along the center line of the road on a horizontal scale of 1:400 and vertical section of 1:100 c) determine cut and fill at each chainage distance d) Given that the road way width is 5 cm and the slop sides are 1:1, draw the cross section at chainage 40 BS IS FS Reduced Distance Remarks Level 1.67 92.55 TBM 1.52 3.87 0 Ground Level 0.91 10 Ground Level 1.59 20 Ground Level 1.77 30 Ground Level 1.66 40 Ground Level 0.72 50 Ground Level PROBLEM 2 The following data represents the reduced levels of field ground results for chainages for a proposed new roadway. CHAINGE (m) REDUCED LEVEL (m) 000 51.5 100 51.7 200 $2.0 53.0 400 53.3 500 53.8 600 54.0 700 54.5 800 55.0 900 54.0 1000 53.7 1100 53.5 1200 52.8 1300 52.4 1400 52.1 1500 51.7 300 For the proposed road, there are two options to design; Design (A) and Design (B)
Design (A) Data: The formation level at chainge 00 is 51.00m and the road is rising at a gradient of 1:1000. Road Width is 6.00 m and the side slope is 1:2 Requirements: 1. Draw longitudinal sections along the centreline of the proposed roadway at a horizontal scale of 1:10,000 and a vertical scale of 1:100. 2- Draw a cross section at chainge 1200.00m. 3. Determine the depth of cut and height of fill at each chainge points. Design (B) Data For the same ground data, starting from the formation level of the Chainage 0.00 reduced level of (51.5), then increasing to be 53.00m at chainges 600.00m. Then reducing gradually to be 50.00 m at chainage 1500. The road width is 6 m and the side slope is 2:1. For the second road option 1) Draw longitudinal sections along the centreline of the proposed roadway at a horizontal scale of 1:10,000 and a vertical scale of 1:100. 2) -Draw a cross section at chainge 1300.00m 3) Determine the depth of cut and height of fill at all chainge points. 4) From your point of view, which design is more favourable.
