QUESTION 3: 10 MARKS You have been asked to design a reducing pipe (i.e., a pipe that gets smaller). The connection is attached using a set of flange bolts that can withstand a maximum force of 300 N. The water exits the pipe at location 2 (see Figure 3) into the atmosphere. The diameter of the pipe at location 2 is D2 = 6 cm. The exit velocity at location 2 is 13 m/s. The pressure at location 1, P1 = 74,000 Pa (gauge). • The fluid in the manometer is mercury, with a density of 13,537 kg/m3. The fluid in the pipe is water, with density of 1000 kg/m3. Determine the following: a) What is the velocity at location 1 (V1)? Give your answers in m/sto 1 decimal place. [2 MARKS] b) What is the differential height, h, of the manometer? Give you answer in cm to 2 decimal places. [2 MARKS] c) Using your knowledge of Forces, will the flange bolts fail? Why? Provide equations, calculations and 1-2 sentences to explain why. [6 MARKS]
