Two cylindrical rods, one of steel (40-mm in diameter) and the
other of brass (30-mm
in diameter), are joined together at C and restrained by rigid
supports at A and E. The steel rod is loaded by load of 60 kN at B;
load on the brass
rod at D equals zero. Knowing that the moduli of elasticity of
steel and brass are
Es=200 GPa and Eb=105 GPa, respectively, determine:
1) The maximum normal stresses in the steel and brass rods.
2) The magnitude and direction of the displacement of point
C.
