one end built into a rigid support, have flanges
attached to their free ends. The flanges are to be
bolted together. However, initially there is a 6° mismatch
in the location of the bolt holes as shown in the
figure. (a) Determine the maximus shear stress in each
shaft after the flanges have been bolted together. Determine
the angle by which the flanges rotates relative to end A. (c)
If the four bolts are positioned centrically in a 4-in
diameter circle, determine the required diameter of the bolts
if the allowable shearing stress in the bolts is 1740 psi.
Neglect the deformations of the bolts and the
flanges.
