WWT4701 QUESTION 1 [10 Marks] An empty plot of land was recently gifted by the owner to the local community, to be used as a garden and play area. When they got to the area the following morning though, they found a pool of waste that had been dumped, and it was clear that the waste had been dumped illegally. One of the volunteers whose profession was as an Environmental Engineering Specialist, took a sample and determined that the sample had a 5-day BOD of 109mg/l and a k-value of 0.35/day. However, it became known that a local doctor on night shift had actually spotted a truck in the area about 2 days prior. There are several factories nearby to the plot that could have been responsible for this illegal dumping. A beer brewery with an ultimate BOD of 325mg/l, and milk products' factory with an ultimate BOD of 140mg/l, a fresh fruit canning and juicing factory with an ultimate BOD of 100mg/l, and a pulp and paper mill with an ultimate BOD of 270mg/l.
