Question 4 Figure 4 shows a water supply system designed for a building, including the pipelines with a centrifugal pump and two tanks. The pump whose characteristics are given in Table Q4 is used to pump water (density = 1000 kg/m) from an open tank in basement through 60 m (length of pipeline) of 70 mm diameter pipe of friction factor f =0.02 to another open tank in which the surface level of the water is 55.0 m above that in the supply tank. The minor loss coefficients of the entrance and exit of the pipe are both 1.0. Ignore other minor loses, Table Q4 Head-flow characteristics of the pump Pump Head (m) 91 85 63 49 32 Flow Rate (m/s) 0.004 0.005 0.006 0.007 0.008 0.009 Pump efficiency (%) 30 62 85 76 0 85 64 Exit K=1 55 m Steppe EG 2 mn Steel pipe Pamp Entrance K-1 Figure 4 Water supply system for a high-rise building (a) Determine the flow rate in the pipeline.
