(1) Choose an engineering application of bolts with tensile loads in real life. The steel cylinder head is shown in Fig. I as an example. Do NOT use a steel cylinder head or pressure vessel in Example 8-4 as your design application. Please describe: (a) what the application is; (b) how the bolts are used in this application: (c) how the extension loads are generated; (d) show a schematic diagram (picture or hand sketch) of the application similar to Fig. I. Figure 1. Schematic diagram of the steel cylinder head (2) Define the given parameters. Table 1 is shown as an example of a steel cylinder head application. Be aware that your given parameters may be different from Table 1 because your selected application will be different Table 1. Given parameters of the steel cylinder head A B C D Bolt Grade Bolt Specification Value 2,75 in 3-5 in 1500 psi SAES in-13 Parameter Please define: (a) bolts specifications, a suitable length of the bolts, and bolt grade of the bolts used in the application; (b) the thickness of members and materials of members; (c) the parameters needed to calculate the extension load. All the parameters you defined need to be realistic and need to be justified. e (3) Calculate ko, km, and C. Please type the detailed calculation of the bolt stiffness ky, stiffness of members and stiffness constant C. The calculation must be typed in Microsoft Word using "Equation Editor". (4) Find the number of bolts required for a load factor of 3 where the bolts may be reused when the joint is taken apart. You need to type the detailed calculation in Microsoft Word using "Equation Editor" 11.
(3) Calculate ko, km, and C. Please type the detailed calculation of the bolt stiffness ky, stiffness of members km, and stiffness constant C. You need to type the detailed calculation in Microsoft Word using "Equation Editor". (5) With the number of bolts obtained in part (4), determine the realized load factor for overload, the yielding factor of safety, and the load factor for joint separation.
