2. Air flows through a perfectly insulated duct. The pressure and temperature of the air are monitored at two locations
2. Air flows through a perfectly insulated duct. The pressure and temperature of the air are monitored at two locations along the duct; at A the pressure is 2 bar and the temperature is 200°C while at B the values are 1.5 bar and 150°C. (a) Draw a sketch of the duct showing an appropriate system boundary for a control volume and label the values of pressure and temperature at its inlet and outlet. (b) Determine the change in entropy of the air between A and B and hence decide which way the air is flowing. Assume ideal gas conditions such that the gas constant is 0.287 kJ/kg.K and for air cp = 1.005 kJ/kg.K. [Answer: 0.02966, B to A]
