1) An axial load of 100 kN is applied to a flat bar 20 mm thick,
tapering in width from 120 mm to 40 mm in a length of 10 m.
Assuming E = 200 GPa, determine the total elongation of the
bar.
answer. 3.43 mm
pls dont solve using definite integral
2) A coupling consisting of two circular plates welded to
the ends of two shafts is to be designed using 2.54 cm diameter
bolts to connect one plate to the other. The bolts are to be
located at a distance of 0.1524 m from the axes of the shafts. If
the coupling is to transmit 4026.8 kw at a shaft speed of 1200 rpm,
how many bolts should be used in the coupling if the allowable
shear stress for the bolts is 103.43 Mpa?
answer. four
