Problem: F The circular beam shown in Appendix A is made of Ti-50A titanium alloy. Material properties are given in Appendix B. 1. For what value of F, yielding will occur? 2. If F is given as 5 kN, for point A on the cross section find: a. Normal and shear stresses b. Principal stresses c. Maximum shear stress 3. Safety factor a. Calculate the safety factor for point A b. If the beam was made of Gray Cast Iran - Class 40, calculate the safety factor of the design with respect to the point A using the geometric approach (Mohr's Circle). 4. Fatigue: a Calculate the safety factor of the design for N = 105 cycles if the magnitude of the force F varies between - 10 kN and 10 kN. b. Calculate the safety factor of the design for infinite life if the magnitude of the force F varies between - 10 kN and 10 kN. c. Calculate the safety factor of the design for N = 105 cycles if the magnitude of the force F varies between 0 kN and 20 kN. i. Use Modified Goodman criterion of failure ii. Which type of failure is expected?
