A receiver has a noise figure of 5 dB, and bandwidth of 800kHz. (a) Assuming external noise is negligible, and a signal power of 3 x 10-13 Watts. What is maximum possible information rate, i.e. the Shannon-Hartley channel capacity? (b) Suppose it is possible to increase the bandwidth as much as you like? What is the highest channel capacity that can be obtained? (Hint: the answer is not infinity.)
